“Adams died of a heart attack on 11 May 2001, aged 49″. (One year before turning 50).

Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Gutenberg Galaxy: The book: The video game: The interactive novel

Radio Floyd-ah

“Adams included a reference to Pink Floyd in the original radio version of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, in which he describes the main characters
surveying the landscape of an alien planet while Marvin, their android companion, hums Pink Floyd’s “Shine On You Crazy Diamond“.”

Hitchhiker: The book

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy novel was released in 1979.

1979=1997 flipped. (Also 1979=20 years before 1999.)

“Douglas Adams’s Starship Titanic” (1997), was written by Terry Jones, based on an idea by Adams.
1997=The year Titanic movie was released. Among many other things.

Titanic the vidya game

“Starship Titanic” (computer game) was released in 1998.
The novel came first. BUT. The novel (written by Terry Jones from Monty Python) was based on the video game, which came later. Book=written Terry Jones, but based on an idea and a video game designed and written by douglas adams.

Douglas Adams Starship Titanic

A conversation between a human (the player) and a computer. The player actually talk to the robots in the game, with actual words. The result is sometimes brilliant, and sometimes completely nonsensical.

Starship Titanic: The video game: The book

The book is more or less based on the video game, which is rather unusual. Usually it’s the other way around: the game that is based on the movie or the book. From wikipedia: “A novel entitled Douglas Adams’s Starship Titanic, based on the game, was written by Terry Jones.”

(On a personal note, I remember finding “Douglas Adams’s Starship Titanic” (1997) at my local library around the year Y2K. But I never got around to read it.)

The video game “Starship Titanic” was an attempt to use digital word recognition/natural language interpretation/ai in a video game. Meaning: that you can write full sentences into the game (when talking to robots) and they will try to make sense of what you’re saying.

Starship Titanic the Sk-HAInet
WOW. The site to the 1997/1998 videogame is still UP. Even after all these years.
How many web sites from even the early 00s is still up?
Let alone from a (mostly) now-forgotten 1998 videogame.
